Driveway and other accomplishments
One of the reasons I decided to start this blog at this particular time of life, is because after years of dreaming, we are FINALLY in the process of moving “out to the country.” We have put our house on the market *God willing* We will close at the end of this month, and transition smoothly into the new house!
The hardest part right now is the excitement. I have lists upon lists of things I want to accomplish on the farm. I want a garden with everything A-Z, I want fruit trees, and bushes. I want goats, and chickens. Chickens for eggs, chickens for meat. I want rabbits, and alpacas. Herbs and a patio.
Confession time? One of my biggest flaws as a person is that I am terribly impatient. I rushed through highschool, I took all summer classes to make it through college early (even though I ended up taking 5 years for my first degree anyway, and going back to school, then going back again…. But those are stories for another day). And I have tried so hard not to rush my kids through their child hood. But how do you not? I mean, what mom isn’t constantly trying to teach their kid the next thing? Walking? Running? Playing? Things to learn in school? You get it.
But with this? I have spent some serious time on my knees, praying for God to just let me enjoy the process.
Watching my husband create a driveway to our future house, out of a field? That was pretty cool.
Seeing the look of immense satisfaction on his face, radiating *yes I said radiating… Sorry dear* was one of my happiest “wife moments.”
I mean, look at that man again. He is oozing pride!
Watching the kids learn to play in the woods, and cross a creek. Quite literally took my breath away. Which is hard to do, because the place where I can breathe better then anywhere on earth is the woods!
My mom finally got to take a trip out to the property with us, and her exact words were “Even the DOG looks happy!”
For us, it is not practical, to spend two thousand dollars planting all of the fruit trees, and buying all of the animals as soon as we move. We will be taking this one step at a time. A few bushes here, a few goats there, a dozen chickens here, a trio of rabbits there.
I am so much more than excited for this new venture. I am hopeful. And what’s more, I am excited that you are going to get to see it too!
